We REVOLUTIONMUSLIM.COMoffer our support and our condolences to our Sister, Dr. Aafia Saddiqui. We primarily bear a message of love, hope and compassion and ask that Allah (Aza wa-Jal) protect her and guide her to good health and freedom in the future inshallah. We come to show our solidarity today with sister Saddiqui and all Muslims detained illegally and fraudulently across the globe by the U.S. government and its accomplices, those prisoners and detainees we are fortunate to have knowledge of and those whom are detained in secret detention facilities of whose specific situation we are unaware. We ask that Allah (SWT) hasten their release and we remind the Muslims of our obligation to be indiscriminate in our judgment and testimony and to speak the truth even when it is bitter. Allah says in the Quran:
O You who believe! Show integrity for the sake of Allah, bearing witness with justice. Do not let hatred for a people incite you into not being just. Be just. That is closer to faith. Heed Allah alone. God is aware of what you do. (Qur'an, 5:8)
At the same time Allah admonishes Muslims in the Qur'an where he says:
And why should you not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated and oppressed? Men, women, and children, whose cry is: 'Our Lord! Rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from You, one who will protect; and raise for us from You, one who will help. (Quran 4:75)
To gain this liberation of the oppressed, Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) is reported to have said:
Strive (jahidu) against the disbelievers with your hands and tongues.
(Sahih Ibn Hibban #4708)
The story of Doctor Saddiqui is a particularly heart wrenching one and is exemplary testimony of the fact that there is a very real war today between the Muslims and Infidels, a war where all bounds have been transgressed and where on one side the world calls for the respect of law and democracy, constantly pointing its fingers at “terrorists,” a term that has increasingly become synonymous with “practicing Muslims” and calling for a respect for Human Rights. However, a true analysis of the actual record documents the fact that before and after September 11, 2001, the biggest terrorists in the world are the U.S government and its partners involved in the international financial-military-industrial-media complex. Aafia Saddiqui is a product of this terrorism and may prove to be another victim of that system progressively gathering around the Muslim world as though it is to feast on a meal.
In September of 2006 President Bush, alongside family members of those killed on 9-11 acknowledged the existence of secret CIA prisons across the globe utilized to house “terrorist suspects” and reported that all in custody had been released to Guantanamo. However, research by the Council of Europe in June 2007 reported that, “What was previously just a set of allegations is now proven: large numbers of people have been abducted from various locations across the world and transferred to countries where they have been persecuted and where it is known that torture is common practice. Others have been held in arbitrary detention, without any precise charges leveled against them and without and judicial oversight-denied the possibility of defending themselves. Still others have simply disappeared for indefinite periods and have been held in secret prisons, including in member states of the Council of Europe, the existence and operations of which have been concealed ever since.” In 2008 British complicity in the situation was documented with evidence the US used the UK isle of Diego Garcia to interrogate illegal detainees. Diego Garcia like other tax havens for hedge funds and isles of contemporary capitalist-imperialism is a legendary arm of the neo-colonialist empire we presently call “globalization”.
The US and its partners have since sought to silence ex-prisoners from giving the details of what they term “alternative interrogation methods” claiming they are national security issues as governments across the globe continue to take advantage of the flux generated by terrorist threats to impose restrictions on fundamental freedoms. Pakistan is a primary example of a US client state that has been complacent with the means of this Empire in this so-called “War on Terror.” Pakistan’s assistance in secret detention and abduction was more crucial than any other country. The Pakistani authorities have delivered hundreds of prisoners to the US – some ending up in military custody, others in CIA custody. The US State Department’s annual human rights report for 2004 claims that Pakistan “held prisoners incommunicado and refused to provide information on their whereabouts, particularly in terrorism and national security cases.” Amnesty International reports that our Sister Saddiqui and her three small children went missing in Karachi, Pakistan in March 2003 and a 2007 report by them from June 2007 reports that she is someone for whom there is “evidence of secret detention by the United States.” Her lawyer Ms. Elaine Sharp believes that Ms. Saddiqui has been secretly detained since 2003. Moazzam Begg, a Muslim detained in this “War on Terror” at Baghram Airbase in Afghanistan and on Guantanamo, reported after his release that there was a female prisoner number 650 in Baghram that would cry all the time and appeared to have lost her sanity. We demand an immediate investigation into whether or not Ms. Saddiqui is Prisoner 6-5-0 and her immediate release in the event that she is.
The US government, however, claims that Ms. Saddiqui magically appeared outside a governor’s office in Afghanistan with her 12 year old son, 5 years after her disappearance. Not only that but the FBI report claims that she had on her possession, “numerous documents describing the creation of explosives, as well as excerpts from the Anarchist’s Arsenal, and descriptions of various landmarks in the United States, including New York City.” Elizabeth Fink, a member of her legal team reports, "Of course they found all this stuff on her. It was planted on her." "She is the ultimate victim of the American dark side." Still this convenience allowed the US to make the ludicrous claim on top of all this that Dr. Saddiqui, all 100 pounds of her, wrested a weapon from 4 FBI agents and 2 Afghan translators and fired off a few shots before they shot her in her torso a claim Amnesty International has denounced as “extraordinary.” She was therefore extradited to New York where she stands charged with committing the alleged crime in Afghanistan of possessing plans to attack the US and has not been charged with a single allegation from the past that helped to portray her as a member of Al-Qaeda. Siddiqui's health is very frail as a result of her gun-shot wound; the report of the co-chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Iqbal Haider, feels the images of Siddiqui show her life is in imminent risk. The report states that:
- one of her kidneys had been removed while in captivity;
- her teeth had been removed;
- her nose had been broken, and improperly reset;
- her recent gun-shot wound had been incompetently dressed, was oozing blood, leaving her clothes soaked with blood.
Sister Saddiqui presently suffers from brain damage due to her time in U.S. custody something we are allegedly to believe is either a consequence of her past few weeks in confinement, or the effect of running around as the stereotypical terrorist in Afghanistan. It is hard to imagine however that Dr. Saddiqui could have been in possession of the articles the US government alleges if, in fact, this were the case. Despite this, the US government prosecution has been incredibly hostile toward her condition as they attempted to prevent a judge from ordering medical treatment by calling her a “security risk.” We point your attention to this latest display of hypocrisy by the United States and we call your attention to the overwhelming probability that our Sister Saddiqui was set-up and was actually detained by the US for five years.
Her case is a classic example of the hypocrisy of the West in their “War on Terror.” Author James Rosen has described a CIA secret prison codenamed Bright Light; he says, “The word is once you get to Bright Light you never come back.” While Ms. Saddiqui has been returned, justice has not been served. We demand justice. WE ARE ALL AAFIA SADDIQUI, and those who sit silent and do nothing while she is oppressed will only allow the terrorism to go on. One day these methods will be turned on increasing numbers of men, women and children, Muslims and non-Muslim alike. Revolution Muslim calls on all to rise up and answer the pleas of the prisoners; we call for the end of CIA secret detentions and renditions, the end of Guantanamo Bay, the discontinuance of this counterfeit War on Terror and that they let us live in peace, that they relinquish our resources, free us from the bondage of Western-puppet regimes, supported dictators, tyrants, and oppressive Kings and we call for the release of Aafia Saddiqui immediately or fear the wrath of Allah aza wa jaal...
We include the following recommendations:
To the enemies of Islam: the United States government and the private power that is its de facto controller, we call you to release our sister immediately and to fear the punishment of your Lord who created you from mere clay and will return you to Him and call you to account for your deeds. We warn you of a fire whose fuel is men and stones.
To the peaceful and decent citizens of these United States, we understand that the constant barrage of daily news from the mainstream press, the media wing of this empire, creates a certain Islamophopia that seems to suggest that when violence and torture is used against a Muslim it is justified, but we call you to research the justice of Islam and take your news and information from the innumerable media outlets that publicize truth without the propaganda. We challenge you to imagine that a Muslim country was secretly detaining Americans and torturing them. Imagine the media response that would unfold calling for the immediate attack and indiscriminate punishment of an entire country and the constant coverage that would be attended to the situation. We ask you to consider that none of the facts we have mentioned in this statement have been remotely mentioned in your main stream media. We challenge you to shed yourselves of the deception the power structure has imposed on you and to rise up and put an end to the murder and imperialism committed in your name. You have no business of referencing human rights and praising democracy in the face of these atrocities.
To the Pakistani population we thank the thousands of you that continue to rise up in the face of this great oppressor that seeks to control your land and government, but we remind you that you are Muslims and we remind you of the justice of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) who forbade the torture of captives and told us to behave in ways that are better than our enemies. When Allah commanded the Prophet to rise up and spread Islam in Surah Al-Mudaththir He said:
O, you covered in a blanket. Stand up and warn. And praise the greatness of your Lord. And purify your garments. And keep yourself well away from false gods and other forms of foolishness. And do not do all of this hoping for gain or payment. And for the sake of your Lord maintain patience (74:1-7).
We tell you to imitate this commandment from Allah to His last and final Messenger and to move towards adhering to the fundamental principles outlined in these verses: Stand up and warn your communities to return to the Glory Allah will bestow on you when you return to the shariah of Allah and separate yourselves from the evil entities that seek to oppress you by allowing the US onto your territory to indiscriminately torture and kill your Muslim brothers and sisters and seek not fame or fortune or the life of this world but seek to preserve Islam for your future generations and to be the revivers of the deen. Let this case of Aafia Saddiqui serve as the final breaking point and end to Pakistani inservitude at the hands of the US master.
To each and every Muslim across the globe, we call on each and every one of you to gain knowledge of this situation and others like it and to call on local imams, masjids, and community notables to address the concern and discuss it in their local communities. We are unaware of any group or mosque that has taken up this issue other than some sisters and brothers from the Boston area. This is a tragedy and optimizes the horrendous state of our leaders, who take the pulpit each and every week and separate the religion from the everyday affairs with their khutbahs and thereby ignore their obligation to inform the community of the affairs of the Muslims. Therefore, we call on all Muslims to contact their local imams and inform them of this situation and ask them to mention it in the Friday prayers before working in multiple ways to see justice in this case. All too often the mosques are treated as though there is no place for the contemporary situation but Muslims deserve to know about these realities of our times. We ask that all masjids that refuse to discuss Dr. Saddiqui's case and others like it be prevented from the receipt of your sadaqah and zakat as it is imperative funding goes to organizations like Revolution Muslim, Caged Prisoners, or other media outlets like them, groups that adhere to the sunnah and the Quran but do so in a way that seeks to protect the general welfare of the ummah.
Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession in the land, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion which He has chosen for them. And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear they worship Me and do not associate anything in worship with Me." (Qur'an, 24:55)
